Brandy Merrifield has been the paralegal and office manager for Flaherty Defense Firm since March 2007. As paralegal, she assists Tim Flaherty with case and trial preparation, legal research, drafting legal documents such as motions, orders and memoranda, and analysis of pending cases. As office manager, she is responsible for client accounts, legal compliance for the office, case law updates and local court rules and judicial administrative orders. She has been a paralegal for 12 years. In addition to criminal law, she has worked in civil litigation, will and estates, corporate transactions, and family law.
With a background in psychology, Brandy is able to bring a unique perspective to the resolution of criminal cases, including helping Tim Flaherty analyze cases from the jury’s perspective. She is also a participant in the juvenile justice system in Okaloosa County as a Teen Court Judge.
Brandy volunteers for several organizations, including Making Strides Against Cancer, Relay for Life and Toys for Tots. She specifically works on issues relating to adoption and foster care, and speaks on treatment options for children of trauma in adoption and the foster care system, as well as on adoption placement for older children and child with attachment challenges in adoption. She also participates in a local roller derby team.
Brandy graduated from Florida Institute of Technology in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Psychology and she is certified as a paralegal through Blackstone Law. Brandy is currently in law school at Florida Coastal School of Law with plans to return to Flaherty Defense Firm as an attorney.
