Flaherty & Merrifield has a simple motto: We Don’t Judge. We Defend.

No matter what you are accused of, we will fight for you the way we would want someone to fight for our loved one if they were in trouble. As far as we’re concerned, there is no such thing as a “small” case. To the person being accused and their family, any arrest is a potential life-changing crisis. Our clients trust us with their freedom, their record, and their reputations. We do not take that responsibility lightly.

One aspect of our team that sets us apart is communication. Flaherty & Merrifield not only offers exceptional legal expertise but also a personal touch and commitment to our clients’ needs and to protecting their future. We know a criminal charge is terrifying but knowing you have a team that is working toward your goals and keeping you updated every step of the way provides invaluable peace of mind.

Offering a Team Approach

Flaherty & Merrifield began in 2004 after Tim Flaherty spent three years with the Public Defender’s Office. Tim realized he wanted to offer a more comprehensive defense to his clients. As a state-employed public defender, Tim was responsible for hundreds of case files at any given time. He wanted the freedom to devote the time necessary for every client, every time.

In 2007, Brandy Merrifield, then a paralegal, joined Tim Flaherty and the team concept of Flaherty & Merrifield began to take shape. Over the next several years, the team cultivated its experience and expertise. After 12 years together, Brandy Merrifield joined Flaherty & Merrifield as an attorney.

Flaherty & Merrifield takes a team approach. That means that our clients have the benefit of two attorneys for the price of one. The experience and expertise of Tim Flaherty coupled with the ingenuity and drive of Brandy Merrifield make for a dynamic defense team

Creating Custom Solutions for Each Client

The law is in constant flux and with that comes creative solutions geared toward our clients’ goals and future. Being an attorney is not just knowing the law. Being an attorney means knowing, understanding, and using the law to work for your clients rather than against them. There is no one size fits all approach to defending criminal charges. Some cases require a trial-ready defense with an aggressive stance on the law, facts, and witnesses while other cases require more finesse and understanding. The balance of knowing which approach is best for any given case is critical.

Another aspect of defense that often goes unnoticed is the relationships and reputations of the players involved. Flaherty & Merrifield has worked tirelessly through the years to cultivate and develop a reputation for excellence with the local prosecutors and judges. The benefit from those relationships has greatly advantaged our clients over the years.

Our goal and mission at Flaherty & Merrifield is to educate you, collaborate with you, develop a defense strategy that is right for you, and advocate for you. No one plans to hire a criminal attorney. A majority of our clients are good people who found themselves in a bad situation.

No matter what you are charged with, our team will work toward your goals to protect your future. At Flaherty & Merrifield, you are our priority.

We don’t judge. We defend.
