Our number one goal when somebody comes in to meet with us is to help you feel comfortable. We understand that you're going through a stressful experience and sometimes being able to bring a family member or a friend to the meeting helps lower that stress level. So, of course, we want to encourage that.
The problem that we could run into foreseeably is that we have to adhere to client confidentiality. And if you bring a third party into the room, that could potentially lead to confidentiality being breached. So what I've done in the past is a lot of times I'll tell someone, "Go ahead and bring the family member or friend to the meeting.
Let's have you come into the meeting, all of us together, and we'll talk for a few minutes, but then when it's time to actually get into the specifics of your case, I may ask that person to go ahead and step out and wait in the lobby. That way you and I as my client can talk confidentially about your case.
